Translating university R & D into real world applications and spinning out entrepreneurial companies, which in turn recycle new problems back into new university R & D.

earthDECKS Enterprise enables collaborative technology and service networks that sustain our planet.

Our U-cubed initiative translates university R & D into real world applications that spin out entrepreneurial companies, which in turn recycle new problems back into new university R & D.

U cubed  is a catalyst to create a dynamic, evolving learning environment where students are engaged, question prior assumptions, and see new ways of being and acting in the world. Civilization is now at a critical crossroads. Africa has the opportunity to leapfrog beyond the corruption and confusion of our times by empowering education to produce R & D that can drive breakthrough innovation and economic evolution. U3 offers a new model to transform learning into action into a revolution toward enabling a world that works for everyone.

The U-cubed model enables

  • Universities to better serve their local and distributed communities;
  • Unicorns (brilliant companies, often spun out of universities) to thrive, tell their stories, share their models, and generate other unicorns;
  • Users of the earthDECKS platform to co-create collaborative intelligence capacity for global problem-solving.

Demonstrating the U3 model in Africa

Mission: To develop the templates to grow resource materials to support a new learning paradigm.

The Platform will

  • engage early adopter teachers/ professors to work with us to define functionality needed for a dynamic, evolving knowledge platform that
  • encourages students to learn about and contribute stories about field work they engage in
  • transforms a small demonstration into a collaborative intelligence (C•IQ) engagement platform that enables diverse, distributed teams (starting with students) to share information and collaborate to solve some of the challenging problems that face our planet.

U-cubed focuses on student

  • motivation – students navigate their own paths through the knowledge base and identify also “what’s missing.” What new stories need to be told? What stories do they care about? Or not? And why?
  • critical thinking – students look for conflicting information, bias, errors, etc
  • writing as thinking – students write critique of stories and write their own stories;
  • stories that inspire action – reading a story leads to resources for how to start projects, or support existing projects, then report back with new stories about the progress of their fieldwork;
  • impact tracking – learning various means of impact tracking and how to apply them;
  • collaboration – how to support and enable others to maximize their impact.

The first earthDECKS demonstration uses the global challenge of plastic as model for other time critical impact topics.

Key non-profit collaborators:

UNIVERSITIES to be selected to participate because of professors attracted to co-develop a new learning paradigm, who want to serve as beta developers, working creatively with us to define what kind of platform is needed to support this new learning paradigm.
